Les Cybermen et la Rani débarquent chez Silva Screen
C’est via le site Sci-Fi Bulletin que l’éditeur Silva Screen Records a confirmé la sortie prochaine de deux nouvelles bandes originales de la série classique. Les histoires concernées sont Revenge of the Cybermen avec le 4ème Docteur et Time of the Rani avec le 7ème Docteur. Ces deux sorties nous permettent de présenter du matériel inédit qui jette un nouvel éclairage sur la musique. Les modifications apportées à la partition de Carey ont conduit à une certaine incompréhension, ce qui est un dommage auquel j’espère que nous pourrons remédier ici. Time and the Rani annonçait bien sûr une toute nouvelle approche « pop » de la musique de la série. Les démos originales inédites de l’arrangement thématique de Keff sont également fascinantes pour ceux qui s’intéressent à de telles choses ! Mark Ayres Compositeur La bande originale de Revenge of the Cybermen a une histoire assez particulière. La production de Doctor Who engage le compositeur Carey Blyton (le neveu d’Enid Blyton, autrice très populaire de livres destinés à la jeunesse notamment « Noddy » – « Oui-Oui », ou « The Famous Five » – « Le club des cinq »), mais après écoute l’équipe n’est pas totalement satisfaite de son travail. Les compositions donc donc partiellement modifiées par Peter Howell du BBC Radiophonics Workshop et sont également brièvement utilisées dans les 4 épisodes de cette histoire. Carey Blyton avait déjà composé pour la série pour les histoire Doctor Who and the Silurians et Death to the Daleks. Revenge of the Cybermen est sa dernière composition pour la série. Si les masters originaux ont depuis été effacé, le compositeur en avait gardé une copie sur bande 7 pouces enregistré à 19,05cm/s. La bande comprend également les version modifié par Peter Howell. C’est cette bande qui a été minutieusement numérisée et restaurée par Mark Ayres pour cette édition. Concernant Time and the Rani, l’histoire est non seulement la première apparition du 7ème Docteur, des premières images de synthèse mais également du premier travail du compositeur Keff McCullogh pour la série. La bande originale complète a été restaurée par Mark Ayres, lui même l’un des trois derniers compositeurs de la série classique avec Dominic Glynn. Keff McCullogh composera également les bandes originales des histoires Delta and the Bannerman, Paradise Tower, Remembrance of the Daleks, Silver Nemesis, Battlefield, Dimension in Time et Shada. Les deux bandes originales sont prévues pour le 24 novembres prochains en CD et en streaming. Une édition vinyle a également été annoncé mais sans date de sortie.
